MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

As 1991 draws to a close, we would like to thank our steadily increasing membership for your continuing support of the organization throughout the year. The high rate of member participation in ABRF sponsored surveys and research studies as well as the excellent attendance at the Satellite Meeting in Baltimore this past June indicates a gratifying, strong commitment and interest by our members in ABRF activities. The success and scope of this year's activities have been made possible in large part by the contributions of substantial time and efforts by our many subcommittee members (see list in left column). Thank you for a job well done. Many of these dedicated members together with a number of new subcommittee members will form the 1992 committees which are already designing and initiating next year's activities. The 1992 subcommittee members, including our new Nucleic Acids subcommittee, are listed on page 3. Please contact any of these committee members if you have suggestions about committee activities for 1992 or future years.

A special thank you should also be extended to John Crabb and Beth Fowler, as they complete their third year on the Executive Committee, for a job well done. Beth has been our Secretary/Treasurer for the past three years which has been an especially important and monumental task. John has similarly made major contributions to both the Executive Committee and the Amino Acid Analysis Committee in addition to serving as our Director of Research. Fortunately for ABRF, they will both continue to contribute to the organization in new areas, including our new education initiative, during the coming year.

This newsletter also includes two inserts which should be of special interest to our members. Supplement A summarizes the 1991 survey results and Supplement B contains a complete listing of the sequence results by member facilities from ABRF-91 SEQ. Publication in the newsletter ensures that our members receive these data on a timely basis and in more complete form than would be possible in a scientific journal or book. Of course these reports complement three ABRF related publications from 1991 studies that will appear in Techniques in Protein Chemistry 111 edited by Ruth Angeletti. These references are included on a complete list of ABRF related publications in Supplement B.

Best wishes for the holiday season and join us in 1992.
