A new subcommittee is being organized to address synthesis and sequencing of nucleic acids in core facilities. Formation of this subcommittee reflects the increasing role of these technologies in resource facilities. The number of facilities that provide synthesis and/or sequencing of nucleic acids continues to grow and currently include more than 45% of ABRF member laboratories. The increasing diversity of nucleic acid methodologies and the expanded role of DNA sequencing in centralized laboratories provide additional impetus to initiate this subcommittee.
Organization of the subcommittee will be started this year so that it can be fully operational next year. Alan Smith has agreed to coordinate the organization of the subcommittee. If you would like to volunteer for membership or have ideas for subcommittee functions, please contact Alan Smith as soon as possible (address on page 1).
