ABRF continues to grow steadily in both membership and the scope of association endeavors. Continued strong support by our members and corporate sponsors has allowed program expansion, including the recently initiated peptide synthesis/mass spectrometry subcommittee, while continuing to improve our financial stability . We also recently acquired an NS F grant to partially fund research subcommittees (see page 3).
One of this year's major events will be the Satellite Meeting immediately before the annual Protein Society Meeting in Baltimore, on June 22. The format will be similar to last year's meeting and a tentative schedule is on page 3. Planning for this year's studies and surveys was initiated last fall. Facility directors who have paid their dues should have received 1991 samples and surveys from each of the subcommittees. Further details are on page 2 and members of the 1991 subcommittees are listed in the left column of this page.
Other important association activities in 1991 include a symposium at the FASEB meeting in Atlanta on Monday, April 22 which is jointly sponsored by ABRF and ASBMB. Further details and the speakers are listed on page 3. An ABRF board meeting will be held in Atlanta immediately before the FASEB meeting. At the board meeting, the 1990 and 1991 Executive Committee members will deal with immediate issues as well as long range goals and financial planning.
A supplement is also included in this newsletter which is a summary of an earlier ABRF survey. This supplement is actually an expansion of a trend that was started by publishing detailed results from past sequence subcommittee studies in previous newsletters. As with all association activities, members and sponsors are encouraged to express their opinions on this approach through letters to the editor. The editorial page and other features such as "Ideas & Methods" will return in the next newsletter.
