SURVEY SUBCOMMITTEE
The 1991 ABRF survey data examining the education and level of training of core
facility staff were presented by Carol Beach at the Satellite Meeting.
Responses were received from 90 facility directors and 300 total facility
staff. The poster summary presented the following major findings:
- More than 80% of the respondents believe ABRF should present short theory
classes and continuing education in contemporary core facility operations and
coordinate exchange internships.
- The majority of the respondents favored onsite and manufacturer's facilities
for locations of initial and advanced training, respectively; over 60% believed
short theory and contemporary operations courses should be carried out at a
national meeting site.
- Initial and advanced training could be accomplished in one to seven days.
Internships should last a month to a semester.
- The cost of initial and advanced training should be the responsibility of
manufacturers and employers, respectively.
- More advanced training was desired in every category of facility operation,
but respondents appeared satisfied with current initial training.
The 1992 Survey subcommittee is comprised of Phil Andrews, Beth Fowler, Tim
Hayes, Kathy Ivanetich, Ron Niece, and Mike Rohde (chair). They are considering
possible topics for the 1992 survey. Please contact any committee member with
