EDUCATION COMMITTEE

The primary function of the Education Committee is to advance the understanding and implementation of new and current technologies among ABRF members and the users of core facilities. Towards this end the committee is planning several types of information dispersal.

In order to provide a means for members to communicate quickly about problems they encounter, we are setting up an electronic bulletin. We envision this as a means by which members can share information about new techniques and ask for suggestions if they are having a technical problem in their laboratory. Another member might well have encountered and solved a similar problem. The bulletin board will also provide a means of alerting members to reagent or instrument problems. Corey Levenson is working out the details for setting up the bulletin board. We hope to provide instructions for using it in the next newsletter.

The Amino Acid Analysis committee has started what we hope will be an on-going effort to utilize the ABRF News to call attention (via invited articles) to techniques that, based on their collaborative research studies, have been used to obtain exceptionally high quality amino acid analysis data (see the Amino Acid Analysis Committee Report for additional details). The Education Committee plans to work with the research committees to continue this type of approach.

The Education Committee is beginning to plan workshops for the 1993 ABRF Meeting. Your suggestions for topics are most welcome. Please send them to Beth Fowler.
