MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Protein Society Satellite Meeting is rapidly approaching as the members of our research committees are hard at work tabulating and analyzing the avalanche of data that recently arrived from member laboratories. The Satellite Meeting program that Greg Grant has prepared, with some assistance from Beth Fowler and her newly formed Education Committee, is listed on page 3. Several innovative features have been included and the meeting promises to be quite exciting. Plan on arriving in San Diego in time for the full program. Your participation will ensure a successful program. Also, take the time after the Satellite Meeting to share your impressions about the new additions to the program, especially the workshops, with us. The Education Committee would also appreciate your input about potential future activities that you would find beneficial.

ABRF appreciates the opportunity to work with the Protein Society to improve accessibility of the poster sessions during the Protein Society Meeting. A committee comprised of John Crabb, Al Smith and myself reviewed and organized over 600 posters into the available three sessions.

This issue of the newsletter sets a new record with the largest Ideas and Methods Forum section. Ken Williams has assumed his new role as Associate Editor, which includes managing this section of the newsletter, with his normal vigor. We hope that you will find this expanded section useful and encourage you to submit short contributions to Ken.

It is with regret that we accept Lauren Kim's resignation as the ABRF Business Manager. We would like to wish her well as she and her husband relocate to South Korea to pursue new career opportunities. Lauren has made important contributions to the organization by initiating a centralized business office, and many of our members and corporate sponsors have interacted with Lauren over the past year and a quarter. It is clear that the organization has grown to the point where a Business Office is essential and must be continued. The initial Business Manager experiment has certainly been successful by improving the efficiency of ABRF operation and responsiveness to members.
