The study for 1992 will be composed of a survey of nucleic acids facilities. There appears to be relatively little detailed information regarding the operation and technical capabilities of these facilities. It is anticipated that the results of this survey will assist the committee with designing subsequent years' studies. In an attempt to broaden the field of participants the committee will be working with a number of suppliers via their routine mailings to customers. In addition, an advertisement was placed in the February issue of Biotechniques with the intention of encouraging participation by laboratories that are not currently ABRF members. This study is not intended to duplicate portions of the 1992 survey committee study but to complement it and to expand upon areas not covered in that study. The nucleic acids survey is targeted for mailing in the fall of 1992.
