The 1992 Survey committee has been hard at work since last summer preparing this year's survey. It was decided to return to the issue of core facility operations. The reasons for addressing this issue again were to provide new data on current costs and charges, since this type of data has been quite helpful in the past. Questions were also selected to cover the topics of personnel, physical layouts, and revenue sources. Additionally, sections have been added for new technologies not covered in past surveys, including mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, and carbohydrate analysis.
Copies of the survey have already been sent out to all paid ABRF core facility directors, with responses being tabulated anonymously by the University of Wisconsin Survey Research Laboratory. The compiled answers will be summarized in a report to be given at the ABRF Satellite Meeting on July 25, 1992 prior to the Protein Society Symposium in San Diego.
