Chromatogram Contest.
One of the new features at this year's ABRF Satellite Meeting on July 25 in San Diego was a contest to test your skills at interpretation of sequencer generated chromatograms. Fourteen individuals entered the contest to answer 5 questions from 4 different chromatograms. The prize for the winner was a copy of "Techniques in Protein Chemistry IV", with a maximum of 4 prizes awarded in case of a tie. Four individuals answered 4 of the 5 questions correctly for a 4-way tie, and each will receive a copy of this year's "Techniques" as soon as it is available. Congratulations go to Matthew Williamson of UC-San Diego, Sandra Smith of the University of Texas, John Leszyk of the Worcester Foundation, and Steve Latshaw of the Chicago Medical School.
Workshops.
Another new feature of this years satellite meeting consisted of three concurrently held workshops. The workshops were Optimization of Protein Sequencers led by Paul Tempst, Digestion of Proteins from Blots and Gels led by Kathy Stone, and Mass Spectrometry for Facilities led by John Stults. All three were very well attended and were a great success. Congratulations to the workshop leaders for a fine job and to the ABRF membership for their interest and support. Summaries of the workshops are included in this newsletter. Since these workshops were so successful, we will probably continue them at future meetings. Please give us your input as to subjects you would like to see covered or any changes that you think would be helpful.
