MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

We are happy to announce that the Executive Board reached an agreement with FASEB to provide business office services. This is an important step in the continuing growth of ABRF and it is anticipated that members will see improved response rates in a number of important areas. The business office address, phone and fax are listed in the lower left corner of this page. Deborah Stoutamire is our Business Services Coodinator. She and her staff will coordinate most non-research activities of the organization. FASEB management of our business office was initiated effective September 15 and within a month or two all appropriate operations should be completely transferred to that office.

This newsletter will be the last one produced in Philadelphia and my last issue as editor. Future newsletters will be produced by the FASEB Business Office and Ken Williams will take over as Editor. Greg Grant and David Speicher will continue as Associate Editors.

The ABRF Satellite Meeting immediately before the annual Protein Society Meeting on July 25 was well executed thanks to Greg Grant's careful organization. Attendance of the main session approached 500 people similar to the previous year. The down side of such popularity is that the required cavernous hotel room usually has poor acoustics and it is difficult to see slides. While we have to work within the constraints that available facilities place upon us, presentation o[ most of the complex data from research committees on poster boards has proven to be helpful and will certainly be continued. The addition of workshops after the general session were also well received. While many of us would have preferred to attend all three workshops, concurrent sessions reduced the group sizes so they could be accommodated in more manageable sites.

This newsletter contains detailed summaries from three of the research committees that presented results at the Satellite Meeting. These summaries should provide timely information for those members who could not attend the meeting. We would like to thank Kathy Stone, Paul Tempst and John Stults for both chairing the Satellite Meeting workshops and for providing detailed summaries of the workshop presentations and discussions for this newsletter.

Revised dues forms for 1993 will be sent to all current members in October. It is important that you complete all information on the forms to ensure that the Business Office has accurate information for the membership directory. Future directories will list services as two or three letter codes to facilitate a more compact format. The facility director will also be listed for associate members where applicable, so please provide this information. Prompt return of the dues form with your payment will ensure that you receive all mailings including samples for the 1993 studies. Credit card payments will now be accepted for dues as requested by a substantial number of members. Your continued support of ABRF is vital to the organization and we look forward to continuing to work with you in the years ahead.

David W. Speicher
