NUCLEIC ACIDS COMMITTEE

The Nucleic Acids Committee moves into 1993 with all six existing members, but with a new chair, Margaret Robertson, and a new co-chair, Eleanor Spicer. The nucleic acids survey has been distributed to 192 laboratories that carry out oligonucleotide synthesis and/or DNA sequencing with February 12th, 1993 as the deadline for replies. The Wisconsin Survey Research Laboratory will continue to contact those laboratories who fail to respond to the initial deadline. The committee hopes the information provided by this survey will provide important feedback for existing and planned core facilities. Meantime, the committee is working on the design of a field test with initial focus on DNA sequencing. The committee will sequence a variety of templates to evaluate their suitability and will then choose a sample for distribution. This field test will be developed over the next few months while the results of the survey are being collected and analyzed.
