NUCLEIC ACIDS COMMITTEE

The Nucleic Acids Committee continues through 1994 with no changes in committee membership.

The nucleic acids survey initiated in 1992 is nearing completion. Ninety-one responses were returned to the Wisconsin Survey Research Laboratory. Data is now on the computer for analysis and the committee hopes to have the results available by the end of the year.

The 1993 study consists of a field study of a DNA sample for sequencing. A plasmid with known insert has been sent to 80 sequencing facilities. The laboratories have been requested to sequence the sample with the -21 M13 forward primer using their method of choice. Data should be returned to the committee by October 31st. Compilation and analysis of the data will be done by the Nucleic Acids Committee. If any laboratories have not received a sample and are interested in participating in the study, please contact Margaret Robertson at the University of Utah, at (801) 581-4736 for information.

1994 promises to be very interesting for the Nucleic Acids community as we look forward to seeing the results of both the survey and the field test.
