The Education Committee has been planning the program for the 1994 ABRF meeting in San Diego. With the help of the various research committees, we have planned six workshops which will address timely issues in protein analysis, carbohydrate analysis, peptide synthesis and good laboratory practices. The preliminary program for this meeting is presented on page 6. The Education Committee has arranged to have the workshops videotaped. These videotapes will enable members who could not attend to benefit from the material presented at all six workshops. The videotapes will also provide a training resource for core facilities. Order forms for these videotapes will be available in the next ABRF NEWS.
A joint effort with the Nucleic Acids Committee is focused on increasing the outreach of ABRF to the nucleic acids community. Although historically the ABRF grew out of the protein chemistry community, core facilities are equally important providers of critical nucleic acids services. While some core facilities are active in both the protein and nucleic acids areas, many others are not. The goal of our committees' joint efforts is to develop and disseminate informational materials to staff in nucleic acids core facilities. The committee is preparing a literature package about ABRF to distribute at a variety of meetings. Any ABRF member willing to take copies of this package to a meeting they are attending is encouraged to do so. The committee would also like suggestions for appropriate venues for workshops in the nucleic acids area. Please contact any Education Committee member with your suggestions or requests for the literature package.
