Most protein chemists are familiar with the reliability and productivity of the Beckman 6300 amino acid analyzer. Unfortunately, Beckman Instruments is planning to shut down production of their 6300/7300 line because they can't sell enough to justify their costs and overhead. Several of us have been encouraging them to consider updating the 6300 with a more sensitive detector, a more reliable injector, and with high performance ion-exchange resins to give faster run times. Such a system should be attractive enough that many current users would replace their aging analyzers, generating enough customers to sustain the profitability of this essential protein chemistry tool.
