I am pleased to report that our 1994 Annual Meeting in San Diego was our best ever. The workshops and committee reports were well received and heavily attended and the presentation of the first Beckman-ABRF Award to Frederick Sanger was attended by over 400 people from both the ABRF and the Protein Society. We want to express our thanks to all the organizers, speakers, and attendees who made it a success.
I want to take this opportunity to announce an important transition for the ABRF. With the publication of this Newsletter, Ken Williams is stepping down as Editor. As the first line of communication to our membership, the Newsletter is vital to the Association, and the position of Editor is of great importance to our success. Ken has done a remarkable job with the Newsletter in the time that he has been the Editor and I hope you will join me in expressing our enthusiastic congratulations for his accomplishments. On the plus side, I understand that Ken will continue to function as an Associate Editor at least during the transition. John Rush will take over as Newsletter Editor effective with the December issue. Those of you who know John will instantly realize that we are very fortunate that he has accepted this responsibility. We are very confident that the quality of the Newsletter will continue to be superb under his leadership. Also, join us in welcoming Dan Strydom as a new Associate Editor. Dan is a past chairman of the Amino Acid Analysis Committee, and his participation will add even more strength to the editorial board.
As a result of discussions at the annual meeting, we have also established the position of Corporate Liaison and are extremely pleased to announce that Audree Fowler will assume that position. Audree has been very effective in the past in interacting with our corporate sponsors and we look forward to her participation in this expanded role.
I am happy to report that the ABRF has again been invited by the ASBMB to organize a Special Session at their Annual Meeting. This session will be entitled, "Current Techniques in DNA Research" and will be chaired by Ron Niece and Clayton Naeve. It will take place during the week of May 21-25, 1995 in San Francisco, CA. Finally, this is a time of transition on our committees. So, we want to welcome all our new committee members, and express our gratitude for the efforts of all our continuing and departing committee members. For them and all our members, good luck and best wishes.
Gregory A. Grant
