Workshop-Internet Resources for Molecular Biology and Protein Chemistry.
Chaired by Lincoln Stein.
Presentations by
Lincoln Stein (MIT Genome Center, Whitehead Institute for
Biomedical Research)
Carl Rosenburg (MIT Genome Center), and
Tau Mu Yi
(MIT Genome Center).
This workshop will be a step-by-step guide to the many molecular biology
and protein chemistry resources available on the Internet. In addition to
covering the many ways to retrieve potentially relevant information from
Internet-accessible databases, this workshop will cover how to release data
electronically using the World Wide Web. Topics include:
GenBank, GSDB, SwissProt, EMBL, and other sequence-based databases
PDB, the protein structure database
GDB and other map-based databases
Entrez, IGD, and other integrated databases
Internet-based sequence and protein similarity searching
Internet-accessible gene finding software
Electronic submission of data to community databases
Publication of data via FTP and the World Wide Web.
