Carbohydrate Analysis
Research Committee
The Carbohydrate Committee of the ABRF was formed to enhance the
performance of carbohydrate analysis and to promote communication among
member facilities and with the scientific community at large. The 1995
study focuses on the ability of research laboratories and core facilities
to identify and quantitate carbohydrates that might be present in protein
samples. Two protein samples are being provided-one is a glycoprotein, the
other is not glycosylated. Member facilities possess a variety of technical
capabilities with respect to protein and carbohydrate characterization. If
the laboratory does carbohydrate composition analysis, we are requesting
that they carry this out on both samples, report which is glycosylated, and
describe the composition in as quantitative terms as possible. Laboratories
that do not have carbohydrate analysis capabilities are being encouraged to
participate and use amino acid analysis to identify the glycoprotein. We
intend to distribute the samples in March to about 400 laboratories.
