Education Committee

This has been a productive year for the committee. We are happy to see that the two electronic communication methods implemented in 1994 have been used quite actively over the past few months (see updates on page 13). In addition, to gain visibility in the nucleic acids community and to attract new members from this area, we have assembled a nucleic acids literature package that includes reprints relevant to synthesis, purification, and analysis of nucleic acids in core facilities. It will be distributed at relevant meetings or can be obtained from the ABRF business office.

During this year the committee will be actively involved in helping the organizers of the ABRF meeting to be held in Boston on July 8, 1995. Ron Niece will lead this tenth anniversary meeting. Also, we will help the organizers of the first independent ABRF meeting in San Francisco scheduled for March 1996.

We are investigating the use of videotapes for training facility personnel and facility user groups. We hope this will be more successful than our first adventure in videotaping at the 1994 meeting in San Diego. We apologize for the long delay in sending the tapes. However, we do ask that you evaluate these tapes so that we can decide whether to videotape the sessions at the 1995 meeting.

Because Beth Fowler is now the President of the ABRF, she has stepped down as chair of the committee only to be replaced by the other Fowler (Audree). We also welcome Nadine Ritter from Abbott Laboratories to the committee. She adds her enthusiasm to an already very enthusiastic group.
