MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

ABRF '96: Biomolecular Techniques promises to be an exciting meeting. We have an outstanding program of plenary speakers, workshops, and tutorials. With 112 posters submitted, the poster sessions should provide many opportunities for discussion. Our Research Committees have been working hard to complete their studies and will present their results at a special session. The meeting will enable us to see the newest instrumentation at the vendors' exhibits--all 35 exhibitor booths are reserved, space for additional exhibitors has been added, and several companies have planned evening sessions. Registration is presently over 300 and still growing. This ensures we will meet our expectations for a truly successful meeting where there will be ample opportunity to learn about the latest techniques and "talk shop" with old friends and new. We owe a great "Thank You" to our meeting organizers, Dave Speicher and Steve Carr, and the FASEB meeting staff headed by Jean Lash for all their efforts. We hope to see all of you there.

The ABRF is presenting two additional symposia this summer. On June 3 at the ASBMB meeting in New Orleans, ABRF and ASBMB will cosponsor a symposium on Glycobiology of Human Disease, chaired by Reid Townsend. Our traditional symposium at the Protein Society will be presented on August 3, in San Jose, CA. This symposium, organized by Ron Niece, Lowell Ericsson, and Laurey Steinke, will include two talks on applications of capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. A highlight will be the presentation of the ABRF award sponsored by Hewlett-Packard followed by a lecture by the award recipient. The agendas for these two meetings are on page 2 of this newsletter. As in the past, ABRF will also participate in the Protein Society by organizing the poster session.

As our organization evolves, it is important to have input from all our members about how the ABRF can better serve your needs. Please share your thoughts and ideas with any member of the Executive Board or the Research Committees.

See you in San Francisco!

Elizabeth Fowler
