The ABRF Survey Committee is in the final stages of preparing a general survey on the operation and technical capabilities of core facilities. The survey will cover personnel, physical plant, services, and finances. Six years have elapsed since the last general survey was conducted in January 1992. We know from the activities of the other research committees and the data they have collected since 1992, that changes are taking place in both the instrumentation and the capabilities of the respondents. Our survey will identify current trends in core facilities in a comprehensive manner. This updated information on this topic should be useful to facility personnel, administrators, and granting bodies. The survey will be conducted using the World Wide Web. The anticipated launch date is January 1998.
