The ABRF Research Committees are the heart of ABRF activities and have been a key mechanism for defining state-of-the-art experiments and identifying and evaluating new technologies. Their studies provide comparative data in a real world environment and develop realistic expectations for these technologies. Results from studies organized by the Research Committees are presented at both the independent ABRF meetings and other meetings attended by Research Committee members and are published in journals and books. Lists of previous ABRF Research Committee publications or summaries of the study findings are available on the ABRF WWW Homepage at http://www.abrf.org.
Creating this body of work was possible because of the energetic and dedicated efforts of ABRF members contributing both as voluntary members of Research Committees and as study participants. Present and past committee members have been recruited through a variety of informal mechanisms. Since membership has grown substantially, the ABRF community is not as familiar with the talents and expertise of each individual as had been the case in earlier years. All interested Associates are eligible and encouraged to serve on the research committees. Potential members can volunteer or be nominated by any member of the ABRF.
If you would like to be considered in the pool of members drafted for Research Committee membership, prepare a brief description of your relevant expertise in one page or less. Selected publications may be included but are not necessary. Experience with technologies not yet routinely available in resource laboratories, as well as those in current use, should also be included in the summary since testing both new and existing core technologies is part of the ABRF mission. Because many Research Committees utilize a variety of technologies and expertise, the summaries should be sent to the address below for distribution to the Executive Board and to the appropriate Research Committee chairs. Associates who submit these summaries should not be disappointed if they are not selected soon because each Committee typically turns over only two or three members each year. However, their talents may be tapped for other important ABRF activities.
Electronic submission of your one page profile is preferred. Please send this information as an E-mail note to abrfrequest@aecom.yu.edu with "research committee profile" as the subject heading. Alternatively, you may send it by facsimile to (718) 430-8939.
