This year the Peptide Synthesis Research Group (PSRG) is pleased that Dr. Bruce Merrifield, the inventor of solid-phase peptide synthesis, has accepted our invitation to attend the PSRG presentation at the ABRF '98 meeting in San Diego, CA. This workshop is scheduled for Sunday, March 22 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Dr. Merrifield will not be giving a formal presentation at this time, (his ABRF Award seminar, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, is scheduled for Monday, March 23 at 8:15 AM), but he will be available for questions and comments. The PSRG will first present an update on this year's PSRG study followed by brief presentations by two of the committee members, John McMurray and Steve Kates. For this year's study, participants were given two peptides, a sequence for each, and were asked to determine if the correct peptide had been made. The responses to the study are currently being analyzed and will be presented at this workshop and in poster format. John McMurray will explain peptide synthesis on a resin that can be solubilized as a means to prepare antigens for anti-peptide antibodies, and Steve Kates will give a brief introduction to library synthesis. Members of the PSRG are looking forward to the comments and advice of Dr. Merrifield.
