Addressing Instrumentation and

Infrastructure Needs

The FASEB Public Affairs Advisory Committee (PAAC) is undergoing several changes of interest to ABRF members. The PAAC is being restructured to increase communications with the FASEB Board and to expand its important work in developing and pursuing long term issues of interest to FASEB members. As part of this restructuring, the committee will be renamed the FASEB Science Policy Committee, and its subcommittees have been expanded to address additional initiatives the committee has identified as important initiatives to be pursued over the next several years. One of these new initiatives of particular interest to ABRF members is "Instrumentation and Infrastructure Needs". The new subcommittee charged with development of long term policies for this initiative will be chaired by David Speicher, ABRF's representative to the PAAC/Science Policy Committee. Other members of this subcommittee are Mustafa Lokhandwalla (ASPET), Steve White (Biophysical), and David Lester (AAA). The subcommittee will coordinate its efforts with another committee comprised of Al Burlingame, Larry Goldstein, and John Smith, which is developing FASEB policy initiatives on instrumentation needs for the December 1998 Federal Funding Conference. Members with specific ideas or concerns about how instrumentation and infrastructure needs could be better addressed by the Federal government are encouraged to contact David Speicher at speicher@wistar.upenn.edu.
