Dear Leo,

Just yesterday, I attended the Benelux user meeting of the Micromass Q-TOF.
People presented there results they obtained with this instrument and it
was wonderful to see how diverse the use of this instrument was. There were
topics icluding quantification, exact mass easurement, non-covalent
interactions, LCMS, peptide, DNA, metabolites. Apart of some small details
in set up and software, everybody agreed it was a fine machine that has
several advantages over triple quad apart from neutrol loss capabilities
and related. It requires no special site conditions apart from some
thermostability. YOu just need a normal electricity supply and some outlets
for the gases and an internal cooling system. It fits in any medium size
lab room. We are very succesful in identifying proteins from 2D gels both
by LCMS as nanospray with it.
I must say that we obtained the instrument before there was the QSTAR
competitor (Sciex) and I did not test between the two. I think if you want
a very versatile instrument a QTOF is the right choise.

routine quality control equipment too?

Actually we are going to move to a new building and I have to decide the
size of the room I will install the equipment. What will be the best size?
Besides a cool and dry room, is it necessary any kind of a special
electrical system for the equipment?
