ABI 377, PowerMac G4, and AppleTalk

Hi,

Recently, we have been trying to get our ABI 377 (xl) Sequencer to talk to a
PowerMac G4 (running OS9), but have been without success. We think the
problem might be that the G4 no longer has a minidin AppleTalk port.
Because of this, we were forced to use an Ethernet port and an Ethernet to
AppleTalk converter. We are trying to locate tools to see if the Ethernet
port is actually sending out characters, but at present cannot confirm.
Thus, we have theorized that the ABI software cannot determine where to send
the commands to the instrument.

We called PE/ABI and they were of very limited help. They had us check to
ensure that the "modem" port was being used, which it was. So, we are
currently at a loss of how to set this up on a G4.

If you have any suggestions that you think might help, please let us know.
One other thing that we should relay is that this computer is to be hooked
up to a network in the future, so it has a second Ethernet card in it.
However, we have tried both Ethernet card connectors with the ABI software
and neither work.

Thanx in advance for any help you can provide,

Lou
