This is a general computer / instrument problem and not specific to HP or
HPIB cards:
Many times you must go into the BIOS at startup. To do this: you must
disable quiet boot (That Compaq (or whatever) logo when you power up) and go
into BIOS setup (F3 usually). In the BIOS, you must disable the plug and
play BIOS. Plug and Play, when enabled in NT of 95/98, figures out for
itself what devices are on which IRQ's. HPIB and other instrument
controller cards usually are needed on specific IRQ's. This isn't a problem
for simple home or desktop computers; in fact it's a feature. When an IRQ
needs to be specific, it can wreak havoc with setup.
Take it from someone whose learned the hard way. This is critical for
32Karat Beckman gold with a gold board.

Jack,
I'm not sure whether my situation is relevant but here it is. I assume that
you have an HP 1100 LC as part of the G1000.
We bought a new HP 1100 and tried to get a Micron PII 333 computer to run
it. HP emphasized that we use WIN95 and nothing higher.
We had a world of difficulty getting the Micron to recognize the HP1100 via
the HP1B card. Thanks to the efforts of HP's Joe Elek, we were finally up
and running. As I recall, there was an issue with the version of HP1B card
being used. We switched out a number of these cards.
We also took out all other installed cards that were not necessary such as a
fax/modem, sound and a LAN card. That freed up some IRQs and whatnot.
One of these days I'll re-install the LAN card.
Good luck.

Subject: SEQ: HP computer upgrade
Hello all:
We are trying to replace the 386/25 HP Vectra computer (part of our HP
G1000 sequencer system) with a faster machine, a Gateway P5/66. However,
we can't seem to get the Gateway to recognize the HPIB card. We have
changed the memory location, IRQ and physical location of the card as
described in HP publications "sa10542.doc" and "sa10587.doc" but with no
luck.
Has anyone done a computer upgrade on their G1000 system? Any advise would
be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Jack
