Dear ABRF Members:
The Peptide Synthesis Research Group (PSRG) of the ABRF cordially invites
you to it's presentation on Tuesday, February 22, 2000 from 1:30-2:30PM
in rooms 407-409. In addition to this year's study results, a very
informative talk on the analysis peptides by mass spectrometry will be
presented by Dr. Kati Medzihradszky. Dr. Medzihradszky is a member of
PSRG and she is also a pioneer in elucidating the structure of cyclic
peptides by mass spectrometry. Below is the title and abstract of her
talk:
"But it gave one peak by HPLC!"
Peptide analysis by mass spectrometry
Although, most investigators assume that a single peak by HPLC
indicates the
purity of a preparation, this is not always the case. Thus, mass
spectrometry has become an essential tool in peptide synthesis QC. In
this presentation, data acquired by MALDI and electrospray ionization
will be compared. Differences between some frequently used MALDI matrices
will be presented. The drawbacks and advantages of different mass spec
techniques will be demonstrated and discussed using actual samples.
These techniques include, nanospray sample introduction compared to
HPLC/ESIMS, Post Source Decay analysis and low energy CID in combination
with low resolution and high resolution mass analyzers, etc. Also,
the detective work performed by the Peptide Synthesis Research Group to
elucidate the structure of side-products present in submitted samples
will be presented. Included in this detective work will be the
analysis of cyclic peptides.
All fellow sleuths (Holmes) or other interested parties (Watsons) are
invited!
