Job Description:
This individual will perform protein sequencing and amino acid analysis in the
Analytical Protein
Chemistry Group (Research) of the Structural Biochemistry Department at Biogen
Inc., Cambridge MA.
This work will include preparation of samples as well as daily operation,
troubleshooting, maintenance
and performance optimization of both protein sequencing instruments as well as
amino acid analyzers
(one ABI model 470, three PE Biosystems model 494 HT and cLc protein sequencers,
and Two Beckman
6300 Amino Analysis Analyzers). It will also involve organizing and interpreting
data, transferring data
to computer databases, performing database searches and writing reports. Also
required are good
communication skills and the ability to be a team player and be responsible for
multiple projects
simultaneously. The individual will be required to participate in the design,
development and optimization
of methods for the preparation and investigation of proteins and peptides using
protein sequence, amino
acid analysis, HPLC and Mass Spectral analysis, as well as general methods
development for the core facility.
