I am attempting to label engineered cysteines in
virus-like particles using the reagent PCMBS, amongst
others.
I can only obtain low incorporations. One possibility is
that metal atoms such as Fe+2 or Zn+2 are masking my
thiols. Does anyone know of a chelator(s) that would
remove these ions but not the Hg?
