Dear Owen:

Here a list of manufacturers who produce dedicated systems for Microbore
HPLC. To understand that we talk about the same thing here a short
definition of Microbore

1.0 mm I.D. columns with a core flow rate of 40 ul/min for RP column even
so many people run them at 50 ul/min
800 um I.D. columns with a core flow rate of 25 ul/min

Please understand that there is not only the issue of solvent delivery but
also of detection. For utmost efficiency in absorebence detection (UV) the
flow cell should be small enough to prevent extra-column band broadening.
This means cell volumes of 500 ul or less.
Further think also of what happens when you generate a gradient: assuming
you start with 5% B at 40ul/min total flow, your system must be able to
reproducible deliver and mix 2 ul/min.

What I find interesting in your listing of manufacturers is that you do not
mention a single one who builds dedicated micro systems. But then this is
why you are asking the question.

Now here my list which I present without value. The order is not a
recommendation but totally random. First I name the manufacturer then the
model:

Michrom: Galaxy 2000

MicroTech: UltraChem III

Isco: syringe pump system (I'm not sure if it is still available)

ABI: 140 series

Waters: Cap LC -- micro is at the upper end of their range

Eldex: Micro syringe pump

and last but not least our own product LC Packings: UltiMate

Hope that helps -- if you need addresses check the LC/GC Buyer's Guide.

Best regards: Jean-Pierre
