For the last couple of years ABI/PE was threatening to discontinue the
service contracts for 477s because they have no means of dealing with the
built-in PC computer which runs the instrument and the 900 software. They
are down to scavenging computers from old "retired" 477s and using them as
replacements. If you are unable to get the 477 to boot and the original
discs don't help, you may be looking at a considerable service call and an
unreliable replacement, that is if they will replace it as they may be
saving the few they have for the remaining service contract
machines. Although we liked the 477, this very problem scared us into
getting a Procise this year. Good luck.
