Amanda: This is a summary of our cleaning/maintenance procedures:
- Run the post run valve block wash after every run.
- If the Procise will be idle for more than 1 week, we flush out the column and pumps. The column is stored in 90%B in water and the pumps are stored in solvent B.
- Replace the pump seals every 3-6 months, as per manual.
- Wash the cartridge blocks in 1N Nitric acid every 20 samples: Place blocks in small glass beaker, cover with 1N Nitric, soak for 5 minutes. Dump the acid and rinse generously with water (5-10 times). Cover the blocks with water and soak for 5 minutes. Rinse with Methanol, then blow dry.
-Replace the flask every 20 samples: We use the flask maintenance kit, as per instructions/manual. If we leave it for more than 20 samples (for us, this translates to once every month or two) it gets crusted on to the Procise and it is a real pain to get off.
Since we are under service contract, some of the cleaning/tubing replacement type things are done during the annual PM visit and aren't listed here.
Except for infrequent problems with removing the flask (which we've eliminated by changing it every 20 samples), we've never had a problem with contamination or due to cleaning issues.
