I too have received samples on nitrocellulose and been told they are on
PVDF. Our clean up was not as easy and required PE Biosystems to replace
out every block and line in our 477. Needless to say I now test every
"PVDF" sample we receive in neat TFA even if it means a loss of a portion
of sample. Nitrocellulose will disintegrate in neat TFA and PVDF remains
intact sometimes with slight discoloration depending on the brand of PVDF.
I recommend this simple test to any one routinely providing Edman
sequencing on PVDF blotted samples. It can save you a major clean up and
repair job.
