Dear James,

we've got the same instrument in our lab running since November 1998
without any major problems. The software release we're currently using
XMass 5.0, XACQ 4.0 and AutoXecute 4.2 on a SUN Ultrasparc 5. Sometimes
(maybe once per fortnight) XMass crashes in the manner that opening a new
file won't work correctly anymore. Simply closing the XMass and restarting
usually fixed that problem. Problems with XACQ could easily be overcome the
same way. Complete systems crashes occured (as far as I remember) only two
or three times within the last 1.5 years. The SUN is running 24h a day, all
the time so the systems semms in our case to be extremely stable.
Maybe some more details of your hard- and software configuration as well as
about the error reports would help to get an idea about the problem. E.g.
how much memory does your systems have? How much space is free in the root
area of your harddisk? Do you observe dumped core files?

Yours sincerely,
Marcus
