*Back when I had mgs of protein and was trying to minimize the number of
apparent partial cleavages in a CNBr digest, pretreatment using a method
described by Adelstein & Kuehl (1970, Biochemistry 9, 1355), in which the
protein is incubated at 37†C for two days in 50% HCOOH and 30%
mercaptoethanol, seemed to be effective.
I remember this method well since the mixture was independently confirmed
to smell like a good hard salami!
Good luck!
