Director, DNA Sequencing Core Technology

The Company:

The Company, Inc. is a rapidly growing, publicly traded company whose share
price has risen over ten-fold (as of May 15, 2000) during the past 12
months. The Company is researching and developing biopharmaceuticals to
treat acute and chronic diseases. It uses its high-throughput proprietary
technology for discovering and developing therapeutic product candidates and
for pharmacogenomic and polymorphism analysis. The Company has several major
collaborations for gene-based products and for commercializing its biochip
product.

Position Reports to:

Vice President, Operations

Direct and Indirect Reports:

ÿ Direct: 3 Team leaders, and 1 Group leader.
ÿ Indirect: 30 to 35.

Basic Functions and General Scope:
Overall responsibility for the DNA sequencing group. Integration of the
company's proprietary DNA sequencing technology, including the development
of all areas of chip utilization from sample preparation to bioinformatic
analysis.

Specific Responsibilities:

ÿ Responsibility for an existing gel sequencing department. (Currently
operating three shifts)
ÿ Continually evaluate opportunities to optimize this process.
ÿ Responsible for implementing and managing the departmental budget.
ÿ Expand utilization of the Company's proprietary DNA sequencing chipT
internally.
ÿ Collaborate with the research development team responsible for the DNA
sequencing chip.
ÿ Develop all areas of chip utilization from sample preparation to
bioinformatic analysis.
ÿ Make decisions related to routine production protocol, perform routine as
well as complex DNA isolations and train workers in performing molecular
biology experiment protocols.
ÿ Other responsibilities will include evaluation and troubleshooting of
complex protocols.

Position Requirements:

ÿ Advanced degree in Molecular Biology or related field is required.
ÿ Minimum 5 years significant experience in DNA sequencing.
ÿ Experience in a managerial or supervisory role is a must.
ÿ Experience in project management, technology transfer, and/or process
development is highly desirable.
ÿ Ability to present projects and results to internal, as well as external
clients.

Compensation:

A package to include an attractive salary, generous bonus and significant
stock plan will be structured to match the expected performance level of the
successful candidate.

Relocation:

A relocation package commensurate with the successful candidate's background
