I recently asked for suggestions for places that would perform N-terminal
sequencing on tryptic peptides:
I've got a friend in the Boston area who is looking for a lab to sequence
some peptides from a tryptic digest. Can anyone recommend a lab to perform
N-terminal sequencing and maybe provide any price information?
As would be expected there were a large number of responses. Thanks to
everyone who replied. Since only one of the responses was a reply to the
discussion group, all the rest were direct replies to me, I've listed all of
them below in case someone else would like similar information.
There were 23 responses:
1)
Midwest Analytical does excellent N-terminal sequencing. Contact
Dave McCourt at 314-487-8622 for information about prices.
2)
It can be done at the Biotech. Resource Center at Cornell.
http://brcweb.bio.cornell.edu/
for price info/sample submission.
3)

4)
Here at the NAPS Unit of the Biotechnology Lab, at the University of
British Columbia, we do N-terminal sequencing of proteins and peptides
(along with many other services). One can visit our website (see the
address below), email or call me, for additional info.

5)
You can try Bill Lane's sequencing group at Harvard:

6)
A friend here in St. Louis, who is on the abrf email group, called with your
address. Said you were interested in having some peptides sequenced.
Please give me a call if you are interested or have any questions. I'd be
happy to help out. Thanks.

Sequencing labs are only as far away as the FedEx box. I use Argo
BioAnalytica in New Jersey. Contact StvTindall@AOL.com or 973-605-2100.
Recent runs included tryptic digest of 2-3 pmol of a 75k Da band; sequencing
identified one protein and gave 6 peptides from the other.
8)
our protein chemistry and mass spec facility at the University of Napoli is
routinely carrying out protein and peptides sequencing for customers. You
can give a look to our web site at http://sco.technapoli.it/massa/Home.html.
Prices are depending upon the number of analysis and can be discussed by
mail if you are interested.

We are kind of close to Boston. I work at Cornell in Ithaca NY and
we have a core facility. I regularly do tryptic digests and the
corresponding peptide maps and N-terminal sequencing, plus we just got a
top of the line MALDI-TOF MS and an electrospray ion trap MS, so we are
pretty well outfitted for protein analysis. I also think our rates are
good, comparatively.
Your friend can check out our web-site if he/she wants at:

10)
We offer Edman sequencing services to outside investigators as
well as micro RP-HPLC separations of tryptic digests. Check out
our website for more details and pricing info.

Yale University and Harvard also offer similar services and are
geographically closer to Boston. Here are links to their sites as well.

We use Mike Berne's lab in Tufts University (Medical school). He has very
good service and the best price.

12)
we rutinely sequence proteins & peptides by means of Edman sequencer or
MS-based techniques for pretty good price. But I am not sure if your friend
wants to send his samples to Europe.

We provide amino terminal sequencing on a PE Biosystems Procise
494. We run a 2 pmol bovine beta-Lactoglobulin standard. We also provide
homology
searching if desired at no extra charge. Our fee is $40 per amino acid
with a 6 cycle minimum charge whether or not the sample shows a sequence
(assuming
that not isn't the result of instrument/human error). Most tryptic
peptides are 8-15 amino acids long if you want to estimate cost. As an
aside, we also do
protein identification by mass spec analysis, both MALDI-TOF and
nano-capillary ESMS, of tryptic digests. My contact info is below if you
are interested.

My laboratory can provide Edman protein sequencing facility to your
friend. Our charges are $200 for the first five residues and then $25 per
cycle. The rurn around time is fast.

17)
We can do that sort of work here at Macromolecular Resources. I'm attaching
our web link. http://mmr.bmb.colostate.edu
18)
I don't know if you're looking for someone local to do the sequence
analysis of the peptides, but we offer service to off campus customers. If
the individual is from an academic setting, the rates are;
$85 for 6 amino acids
$150 for up to 25 amino acids
$250 for more then 25
If they are from industry, the rates are higher...
$300 for 6 amino acids
$450 for up to 25 amino acids
$700 for more then 25
Let me know if they are interested in our services. We have an Applied
Biosystems Procise sequencer and or lab has been offering the service for
12 years now.
Thanks!

21) Try Michael Bernes at Tufts University 617-636-6220, inthe past they have sequenced samples, I don't remember the exat cost, but I do remember it was reasonable.
22) We would be happy to do it .Please see our web page at www2.utmb.edu/proch/ . Our charge is $15 per residue/cycle with no set up fee cost now .

23) M-Scan is a well respected lab in Philadelphia that does both N-terminal sequencing and mass spectrometry. I have audited them in a quality inspection and they are very good. http://www.m-scan.com/
