COMPANY: Leading biotechnology company engaged in the research,
development, manufacturing and marketing of therapeutic and biologic
products. Its products include adult and pediatric vaccines and
protein-based therapeutics used in the treatment of cancer,
cardiovascular disease, neurological disorders, hepatitis and AIDS.
LOCATION: San Francisco, CA area
RESPONSIBILITIES: Will manage and maintain a state-of-the art protein
analysis operation comprised of instrumentation systems for: amino acid
analysis,
N-terminal sequence analysis by Edman degradation, C-terminal sequence
analysis by chemical degradation and carboxypeptidase kinetics, mass
spectrometry in Q-TOF, MALDI-TOF and electrospray-quadrupole modes,
capillary, microbore, narrow-bore and normal-bore HPLC, capillary
electrophoresis and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for 1-dimensional
and 2-dimensional resolution.
Reports to the Senior Director of Analytical Development, and will
supervise a staff of seven people dedicated to supporting the following
groups: R&D; Product Characterization; Process Development; Assay
Development & Validation; Formulation; Product Stability Analysis;
Quality Control; and Litigation & Patent Departments. Manages the
generation of high-quality information on protein structure using
state-of-the-art instrumentation, from raw data to regulatory agency
reports and documents.
REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in biological chemistry or equivalent with 10+
years of experience in protein characterization using classical methods
of protein chemistry and new methods of mass spectrometry. Must have an
understanding of the pharmaceutical development process and associated
regulatory requirements.
Must have proven skills in planning, organizing and managing projects.
Strong leadership skills in motivating and influencing others.
Well-developed verbal and written skills. Must have a high degree of
flexibility to handle rapidly changing priorities, and be dedicated to
meeting tight time lines and success in a team-orientated environment.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Initial starting salary will be competitive
and will be based on experience level. Bonus and stock options will
also be offered. A comprehensive benefit program will be offered which
