electrospray?
Yes, if you run an ESI on vancomycin and a D-Alanine-D-Alanine peptide you see not only the non-covalent binding of the peptide to the vancomycin but also the dimerisation of the vancomycin, both seen physiologically also.
I can see that you've already a mountain of references but for further info have a look at the work of Albert Heck at the University of Utrecht and Dudley Williams at Cambridge.
