Dennis,

I do not have an answer for you but had a similar experience. I did
side-by-side labeling of a peptide in carbonate buffer, pH 9, with
Rhodamine ITC and FITC, both from Aldrich. The FITC went on perfectly but
I got very little rhodamine labeled peptide.

Let's hope someone has some insight.
