Did the purification take longer than usual? It may be that there is some
bacterial contamination at some stage in the prep, most likely on a column.
Columns should be stored in at least 10% alcohol, or with azide added, to
ensure no bacterial or fungal growth, but this often does not decontaminate
connecting lines, which can be quite dirty.
