RE: 2-D electrophoresis

I have had pretty much the same experience as Jim with the Bio-Rad Protean
IEF Cell; it runs well, and it's easy to program and edit. We went with the
BioRad system a year ago because it was cheaper and the sales reps were much
more accomodating and knowledgable, although, as Jim pointed out, our most
recent rep appears to be a step above what we have had in the past.
I have used Pharmacia's Multiphor for running strips, but not the IPGphor.
By using Pharmacia's reswelling tray (~$200) for the rehydration step
instead of the disposable trays sold by Bio-Rad (which are very convenient
for storage and for equilibration), we have gotten very consistent results
with Bio-Rad's 2-D strips. I would rate them about the same for quality,
although Pharmacia has more variety.
