    Mary,
    We have been using a Hitachi L-8500 ninhydrin amino acid analyzer for some
years. It is a robust, reliable and low cost running equipment. Analyses are
reprodutive with good resolution of peaks. Although I don't know about the
L-8800, I would certainly buy a Hitachi again based on my experience with the
L-8500.
