My name is Paula and I just joined this mailing list yesterday. I don't know if the header I used is correct but I am trying to find some information about methionine production. I was wondering if anybody knows of the reaction condition to produce DL-methionine. I got some information that the reaction involves methyl mercaptan and acrolein, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and carbon dioxide. Does anybody know the mechanisms of the reaction and its condition? Also the composition of each reactan?
I have also been looking everywhere for a flowsheet of methionine production in a chemical plant. I still cannot find any. Can anyone help me in this matter?
