Joe,
I think you are correct on the repair issue (although
http://fixyourownprinter.com might be helpful - I've never used them
though). We tried a 2500 thinking large format and everything
would be great. We were not impressed with the quality or speed and
we had a number of problems just getting it to work (uncharacteristic
of HP in my experience). We sent it back and decided to take the
plunge to the 4500N. What a workhorse! no complaints at all. Since
we have managed to wean our customers, this is really just for
internal use. For high quality color printing, we share the resource
with the other parts of our organization. That's the way to leverage
costs. When pricing out, be sure to consider the expense of
consumables for ink jets compared to lasers. I know there are other
manufacturers making less expensive (and highly rated) color lasers,
but I don't have experience with them.
