I think restricting the list to non-members is a bad idea. Yes a spam or two
is a drag, but in my opinion restricting the news group is a disincentive to
those who may wish to participate and possibly join in the future which can
limit the organization's growth. Further, How do you determine membership and
manage who can participate? For example, would employees of a sponsoring
company be able to read and communicate through the list? What about when
folks change organizations and email? In the end will adding additional
bureaucracy and limiting participation have the desired effect of making the
news group better?
