role of ombudsman

Alex,
The ABRF ombudsman does not make any commentaries, but simply removes
identifiers and transmits the anonymous messages. Perhaps the last was not
a nice use of the ombudsman by one of our members, but there are times when
the ombudsman function is necessary. For example, during the recent debate
about ABRF research studies, being able to make a comment without
personalities being considered is useful. Being anonymous on scientific
issues is sometimes necessary for someone in industry seeking help. The
recent snide comment directed toward Jean-Pierre Salzmann is an example of a
kind that hasn't happened before, and so, wasn't expected. This type of
message could be filtered out.
