What we do in the newsgroup sci.techniques.mass-spec is put attachments on an FTP site, and give the link to the document in the message posting. This is probably easier for us, since we have to approve everything that gets posted, so we're involved with every article, instead of the automatic nature of a mailing list and mail attachments. I agree with Matt that a central site for large files makes good sense.

Now for my occasional plug for the newsgroup. A lot of the messages here are definitely welcome in sci.techniques.mass-spec. We've have a link to the ABRF on our Web page, but I'm sure there are subjects that our readers won't see because they're not subscribed to the ABRF list. When you send an article here about mass spec, it can also be posted to the newsgroup if you send a copy to <mass.spec@gatech.edu>. For more information on the newsgroup, our Web page is at <http://www.chemistry.gatech.edu/stms/>.
