Assistant Research Professional
Functional Genomics/Arrayer Facility
The Oklahoma State University (OSU) Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology invites
applications at the Assistant Research Professional level. The full-time (11 month), non-tenure
track position encompasses a 50% research commitment and a 50% service effort in the departmentís
Recombinant DNA/Protein Resource Facility. Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate in
biochemistry or a related discipline. Applicants with strong experience in the preparation and use
of microarrays are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates must have demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and interpret innovative research. They
must be willing to cooperate with other researchers and to be part of the service team of the
Facility.
The successful applicant is expected to: 1) manage an existing microarray facility, including the
submission of applications for facility-related external funding; 2) provide training to researchers
in the use of microarrays, both individually and in a workshop format; 3) provide consultation to
other OSU researchers on microarray applications; 4) establish a research program in the general
area of functional genomics, either independent or in collaboration with one or more other OSU
researchers.
The Facility offers nucleic acid and peptide synthesis and sequencing services and training in
related areas. Current instrumentation includes a the Cartesian Technologies PixSys* 5500 Pin Array
System and aScanArrayÆ 3000 MicroArray Biochip Scanning System from GSI Lumonics, Inc. State of the
art facilities and instrumentation are present on the OSU campus. These include a Cell
Transformation Facility, Laser Center, Hybridoma Center, Microscopy Center (TEM, SEM and confocal),
and NMR facility.
