Merck Frosst Canada & Co, the Canadian subsidiary of Merck & Co, is the
largest research-based pharmaceutical company in Canada employing more
than 200 scientists in the Montreal area. The research division, Merck
Frosst Centre for Therapeutic Research, has currently several
entry-level positions in protein mass spectromety to support its
expanding proteomics effort.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D., M.Sc., or equivalent, in
biochemistry or a closely related discipline and will have hands-on
expertise in MALDI-TOF and ESI-MS analysis of proteins and peptides.
Experience in the application of proteomics towards the elucidation of
cellular biochemical mechanisms is higly desirable. A sound
understanding of cell biology and signal transduction would represent a
strong asset, as is a strong background in protein and peptide analyses
and information technologies such as datababase searching and data
handling. The ideal candidate must have excellent oral and written
communication skills and will have the ability to organize and
communicate effectively within a team environment.
As a member of the proteomics group, you will actively participate in
the design and implementation of studies relevant to the drug discovery
process. Your responsibilities will include the use of mass spectrometry
to support the analytical needs of groups engaged in protein analysis by
1- and 2-D electrophoresis as well as other methods. In addition, you
will provide technical guidance in the implementation of emerging
technologies in proteome sciences. Collaborations within the group as
well as with other scientists at Merck will be encouraged.
Merck Frosst Centre for Therapeutic Research offers a stimulating,
highly challenging and multi-disciplinary environment. If you are a
motivated individual with a desire to work within a thriving drug
discovery company, please submit your resume to: Dr. Axel Ducret,
